Of all the birds I have flown, none gave me more pleasure than Goldy (short for the golden girl). Finnish Goshawks have that perfect blend of power, calm disposition and size. We have bred goshawks for more than 20 years.

I don't believe there is one species which meets the needs of all falconers. That's why we have bred all the subspecies. But I do think the Finnish subspecies comes pretty close. Initially most falconers are drawn to their size with female typically flying at 1200 grams or 42 ounces, males, 700-800 grams or 25-28 ounces. But soon after you begin training, it quickly becomes evident that its best attribute is their calm easy going demeanor.
